General

What is a backlink monitoring tool?

A backlink monitoring tool is software that automatically checks whether inbound links pointing to your website are still live, still follow, and still pointing at the correct URL. Backlink Monitor is a backlink checker, backlink tracker, and backlink analyzer in one — it crawls every referring page on a schedule and alerts you the moment something changes.

How is Backlink Monitor different from a one-off backlink checker?

Most free backlink checkers give you a one-time snapshot. Backlink Monitor is a continuous backlink tracking tool: it recrawls your links daily (Pro) or weekly (Free), stores full history, and pushes real-time alerts when a link is lost, nofollowed, redirected, or 404s.

Who is this SEO backlink checker built for?

Freelance SEOs, in-house SEO teams, digital PR agencies, affiliate marketers, and SaaS founders. Anyone who invests in link building needs a backlink management tool to protect that investment.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Backlink Monitor is a 100% cloud-based website backlink checker. Sign up, import your backlinks via CSV, and monitoring starts immediately — no browser extension, no server, no scripts on your site.

Can I monitor backlinks for multiple websites?

Yes. Pro accounts support up to 25 projects, each with its own backlink list, dashboard, and alerts. Free accounts include 1 project.

Monitoring

How often do you check my backlinks?

Professional checks every backlink every hour. Starter checks every 24 hours. Free plans support manual rechecks. You can trigger a manual recheck of any single link or an entire project at any time.

What does the backlink health checker actually verify?

For every referring page we fetch the HTML, parse the DOM, and confirm: (1) the target link is still present, (2) the anchor text, (3) the rel attribute (follow / nofollow / sponsored / ugc), (4) the HTTP status of both the referring page and the target, and (5) any redirect chain.

How do you detect a lost backlink?

If the referring page loads successfully but no anchor tag pointing at your target URL is found in the DOM, the backlink is flagged as Lost. We keep the last known good snapshot so you can see exactly what changed.

Can this link tracker detect nofollow changes?

Yes. Backlink Monitor is a full backlink analysis tool — every crawl records the rel attribute, so we alert you the moment a follow link becomes nofollow, sponsored, or ugc.

Does the inbound link checker handle redirects?

Yes. We follow up to 5 hops of 301/302 redirects and record the full chain. If your originally-linked URL now redirects to an unrelated page, you'll see it in the report.

What kinds of alerts can I receive?

Email alerts and in-app notifications for: link lost, anchor text changed, follow → nofollow, redirect chain introduced, target 404, and referring domain offline. A weekly digest is also available.

Can I import backlinks from Ahrefs, Semrush, or Google Search Console?

Yes. Export any list as CSV (URL, anchor, target) and drop it into our CSV importer. The backlink audit tool auto-detects headers and dedupes on the fly.

SEO

Why is backlink monitoring important for SEO?

Backlinks are still one of Google's strongest ranking signals. Lost or nofollowed links silently erode rankings — often long before you notice a traffic dip. SEO link monitoring lets you catch decay in days instead of quarters.

Will this help with a Google core update recovery?

Indirectly, yes. Sudden link loss around a core update is a common (and reversible) cause of ranking drops. Our backlink reporting tool timelines link changes against your traffic so you can correlate cause and effect.

Does this SEO link monitoring tool track anchor text distribution?

Yes. We compute anchor text distribution across your entire referring domain profile and flag over-optimization risks (exact-match anchors above safe thresholds).

Can I use it to audit a competitor's links?

You can monitor any list of URLs you provide, including a competitor's known backlinks. However, Backlink Monitor doesn't crawl the entire web to discover competitor links — pair it with a discovery tool like Ahrefs or Semrush for that.

Does the backlink management tool track referring domains?

Yes. Every dashboard surfaces total backlinks, unique referring domains, follow/nofollow ratio, and a health score updated after every crawl.

Technical

How does the crawler avoid being blocked?

We fetch HTML with a realistic User-Agent, respect robots.txt, throttle requests per domain, and back off on 429 responses. We do not execute JavaScript, so JS-rendered links are not detected — an intentional trade-off for speed and coverage.

Are backlinks on JavaScript-rendered pages supported?

Not in v1. Our website link checker performs HTML-only fetches, which covers ~90% of real-world backlinks. Full JS rendering is on the roadmap.

Is my data secure?

Yes. All data is stored in an encrypted Postgres database with row-level security. Only you can access your projects and backlinks.

Can I export my data?

Anytime. Every backlink list exports to CSV with one click, including full check history and status timestamps.

Do you offer white-label reports?

White-label PDF reports are included on the Professional plan — useful for agencies delivering monthly SEO retainers.

API

Is there a REST API?

Yes. The public REST API is included on Pro. Generate an API key in your dashboard and integrate backlink monitoring into your own reporting stack.

What can I do with the API?

List projects, list and create backlinks, and trigger on-demand rechecks. All endpoints are documented in the dashboard under API Keys.

Are there webhooks for link change events?

Webhooks are on the roadmap. For now, poll the API or use email alerts.
